JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of the Godean Market in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).

The construction of the Godean Market is carried out by the Ministry of PUPR through the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Directorate General of Human Settlements.

The Godean market began construction in May 2023 and was completed in July 2024 by contractor PT Putera Jaya Andalan and construction management of PT Retracindo Consultant Indonesia with a budget of IDR 89.89 billion.

Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said the design of the Godean Market was the result of a competition conducted in 2020 by the Sleman Regency Government.

"From the results of this competition, it is used as the basis for the Godean Market which was built with the green building concept, and in the future it will be used as a pilot for green building in Sleman Regency," Diana said in a written statement, quoted Thursday, August 29.

The Godean Market is built on an area of 12,359 square meters with a building area of 14,988 square meters consisting of 3 floors.

This market consists of 186 units of kiosks, 1,164 units of loss and 31 units of investor loss, with a total of 1,837 traders.

In addition to kiosks and stalls, the scope of work for the construction of the Godean Market includes a ramp of disabilities, toilets, prayer rooms, security posts, lactation rooms, management rooms, communication information facilities and health post rooms.

One of the fruit traders named Tuti Ningsih appreciated the construction of the Godean Market carried out by the Ministry of PUPR.

"With this new market, I hope that the income and economy of traders can increase more and visitors can also feel comfortable. So, more come. Thank you, Ministry of PUPR," he said.

The Godean Market was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

President Jokowi advised traders to always maintain the cleanliness of the newly inaugurated market.
