JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that he is preparing the implementation of B50 biofuels for 2026 so that Indonesia can be free from diesel imports.
Bahlil said the implementation of B40 in 2025 would be the first step, while preparing B50 in 2026 to reduce dependence on diesel imports.
"So the implementation of B40 in 2025 while preparing for the implementation of B50 2026. If this is what we are doing, then our import of solar God willing, it will be confirmed that there will be no more diesel imports in 2026," Bahlil said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 3.
On this occasion, Bahlil revealed, President Prabowo Subianto had given direct directions to encourage the use of B50 biofuels in 2026 to create energy sovereignty.
"God willing, in 2026 at the direction of President Prabowo, we have to push to B50," he said.
He admitted that he was optimistic that the implementation of B50 in 2026 could increase Indonesia's energy reserves.
"So, we are also part of the President's order regarding energy security, reducing imports. If we encourage our lifting business, in diesel to increase, God willing, our reserves (oil) will be even better," said Bahlil.
He set the mandatory use of B40 mixed fuels to officially take effect from January 1, 2025.
"We have decided from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources regarding the increase from B35 to B40. And today we announce that it is valid as of January 1, 2025," said Bahlil.
