Juanda Airport Avtur Service Now Via Underground Pipe Network

PT Pertamina Patra Naga built tank facilities and hydrant fuel systems at the Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) Juanda Surabaya on Friday 9 August.

With this system, the avtur of the stockpiled tank at AFT Juanda is channeled through an underground piping system automatically. The aircraft charging process will also use a fleet of hydrant dispensers.

President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan explained, this new facility aims to increase the reliability of Avtur's supply at Terminal 2 of Juanda International Airport, which was previously operated using a refueler truck.

"With this new tank and hydrant fuel system, we can increase the resilience of avtur stocks by up to 20 days, or twice the previous capacity. This will certainly support the smooth operation of flights at Terminal 2 Juanda Airport to become more reliable," said Riva Siahaan, quoted on Saturday, August 10.

Riva added that this new facility is also designed to adjust the characteristics of flight services at Terminal 2 of Juanda Airport, which mostly serves international flights.

"We understand that international flights, such as Umrah flights and foreign airlines with wide-body aircraft, require a large volume of avtur. With a hydrant dispenser that has a flow rate of twice as fast avtur distribution, we can meet this need more efficiently. The distribution of avtur through hydrants has also passed through filtration with the latest technology with global standards to maintain the quality of the avtur distributed to airlines," he explained.

The construction of tank facilities and hydrant fuel systems has also received verification and a feasible statement from the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation in June 2024 and the Directorate General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in July 2024.

In addition, the installed equipment is equipped with HSSE features such as Fire Protection, Lightning Protection and Cathodic Protection which refers to the standards required by the International.

Currently, the process of refueling aircraft with a hydrant fuel system has been implemented at a number of other large airports such as Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta, Ngurah Rai Bali, Hang Nadim Batam, Kualanamu Medan, and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).
