Education Groups Become The Largest Inflation Contributors In July 2024

JAKARTA - Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Widyasanti, revealed that the cost of education in the new academic year will be the main contributor to inflation in July 2024.

Amalia said this group experienced inflation of 0.69 percent month to month (mtm). This group contributed 0.04 percent of inflation to general inflation.

"Inflation of education groups contributed 0.04 percent of inflation to general inflation historical data show that the beginning of the new school year has often been a driving force for inflation," Amalia said at a press conference, Thursday, August 1.

Amalia further detailed that the main contributor commodities to the education group's inflation were the primary school fees, which were monitored at 1.19 percent, then the first secondary school fees at 1.06 percent and the high school fees at 0.79 percent.

"The cost of elementary school, junior high school, high school is a commodity that contributes to inflation in education groups with 0.01 percent each," he said.

Amalia also said that based on historical data, education groups have the potential to contribute to inflation in the next two months.
