Have Raw Materials To Electric Car Battery Factory, Jokowi: Who Can Face Us?

JAKARTA - The electric car battery factory, which is an investment from two companies from South Korea, namely LG and Hyundai Motor Group, was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo today, Wednesday, July 3.

In his remarks, President Jokowi said that with this factory, Indonesia will become a global player in the EV ecosystem considering the abundant natural resources.

For decades, he said, Indonesia has only exported raw materials for natural resources.

So that it does not get added value, especially from nickel which is the main raw material for electric vehicle batteries.

But now with the construction of a smelter, with the construction of an electric vehicle battery cell factory, he ensures that Indonesia will become an important global player in the global supply chain for electric vehicles.

"Everything is integrated. Who can block it if the conditions are very competitive like that," said Jokowi, Wednesday, July 3.

Jokowi believes that competence with other countries can be won by Indonesia. This is because Indonesia has all the raw materials for electric vehicle batteries such as nickel, bauxite, and copper.

In addition, RI also has a purification or smelter facility for cathodes, precursors, EV battery factories, and an electric car factory that has just been inaugurated.

All of these advantages, he said, are integrated into the electric car ecosystem.

On the same occasion, Jokowi also appreciated the steps taken by the Chairman of Hyundai who dared to invest in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

It is known, Hyundai also invested IDR 20 trillion to build an electric car factory in the country, including a green package for the electric car battery ecosystem in an integrated manner.

"Soon we will also inaugurate a consortium between Hyundai and LG with an investment of Rp160 trillion which will be completed in stages. Hopefully this marks the better relationship between the Republic of Korea and Indonesia," concluded the President.
