Minister Of Trade Zulhas: Imboring Textile Raw Materials Still Needs Related Ministry Pertek

JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said imports of textile industry raw materials still require technical considerations (pertek) issued by the relevant ministries.

"Loh TPT (textiles and textile products) remains pertek (technical considerations) of the Ministry of Industry. Textiles have not changed. The steel industry, textiles, nothing has changed," said the Trade Minister on the sidelines of distributing sacrificial meat in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 20.

In addition, the Minister of Trade also ensured that the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 8 of 2024, which is the revision of Permendag 36/2023, does not intersect directly with the performance of the textile and textile product (TPT) industry.

The man who is familiarly called Zulhas also ensured that Permedag Number 8 of 2024 was also not related to the widespread news about the closure of the textile industry due to the regulation.

According to the Trade Minister, the Permendag still requires technical considerations (pertek) as an import document for TPT products previously required in Permendag Number 36 of 2023.

"It has nothing to do with the issue of closing the textile industry due to Permendag 8/2024 because perteknya textile tetap, tidak ada perubahan dalam Permendag 8/2024," jelas Zulhas.

Previously, Zulkifli Hasan said that imports of textile, iron and steel commodities still needed a technical consideration letter (pertek) issued by the relevant ministries.

"TPT (textiles and textile products), steel iron still has Pertek," said Zulkifli during a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR in Jakarta, Thursday (13/6).

This was conveyed by Zulkifli in response to the statement of a member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives who stated that the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 8 of 2024 did not side with the domestic textile industry for withdrawing technology from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) to kill domestic production.

Textile business actors are said to be unable to compete with imported goods because there is no longer any technology capable of stemming the onslaught of foreign products.

The birth of Permendag 8/2024 concerning Import Policies and Regulations is projected to close hundreds of textile factories and 120,000 workers are laid off.

Zulkifli emphasized that TPT, steel, and tires still have to use pertek to import.

The government is trying its best to protect the domestic industry. However, according to him, Permendag 8/2024 cannot be completely blamed for the closing of the TPT industry in Indonesia.

In formulating the memandag, Zulkifli continued, the Ministry of Trade always involves several ministries, institutions, and associations. The meeting was chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto for a mutual agreement.
