Simon Aloysius Becomes Pertamina's Commissioner To Replace Ahok, Staff Of The Minister Of SOEs: Don't Be Suspicious First

JAKARTA - Special Staff (Staffsus) of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Arya Sinulingga, asked the public not to be suspicious of the appointment of Simon Aloysius Mantiri as President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero).

As is known, Simon Aloysius Mantiri was appointed as President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) to replace Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok who chose to resign on February 2.

Arya said that every appointment of commissioners and directors of state-owned companies must have gone through various selection processes as well as due diligence and compliance or fit and proper tests.

Therefore, Arya asked the public not to worry that the appointment had a purpose such as retaliatory services or other internal interests.

"We appointed a competent commissioner, and the process is already there. There must be a process, fit and proper test, everything has a process, look for it according to its needs," he said when met at the Ministry of SOEs, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 12.

Furthermore, he said, this condition was also the same when Ahok was appointed as President Commissioner of Pertamina in 2019.

He said, at that time many parties questioned Erick Thohir's decision, but it was proven that Ahok was competent.

"At Pertamina, Pak Ahok has resigned. Even though Pak Ahok was appointed as a commuter, in a fuss. We don't, firmly, insist, and it is also proven that he is tough at Pertamina, everyone admits it," he said.

"It means don't be suspicious first. 'Oh, this is revenge for Ahok'. Just ask Pertamina, how is the supervision. Because this is really needed, this is not operational technical supervision," he continued.

Regarding the appointment of Condro Kirono as Pertamina's Independent Commissioner, Arya said, Condro has a background as a member of the police related to law enforcement.

He said that the background of Condro Kirono is what is needed to supervise Pertamina's operational process so that it remains in line with the applicable law.

"Policies in Pertamina really need from people who have experience in the police. There are many, and since ancient times there must have been police, soldiers, former police, former soldiers, former prosecutors. There must be. Because we want to keep the SOEs from the side of their legal compliance, their legal supervision, they are wary of, not operational," he said.
