JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that he had not been able to solve the problem of smuggling lobster clear seeds (BBL) until now.

This was conveyed by Trenggono in a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission IV of the DPR RI, Tuesday, June 11.

Initially, Trenggono said that since he was appointed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as Minister of KP, he had the task of solving the problem of smuggling BBL carried out by Vietnam.

"For three years since I was appointed by the president to visit the KKP. Then, I stopped exporting BBL with the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 7 of 2024. Then, the data we got were 500 to even 600 million seeds which were routine and continuously there (Vietnam)," said Trenggono.

"The price is not less than 2 US dollars. So, for the 600 million, right, it means 1.2 billion US dollars. Well, the country (Indonesia) doesn't get anything, it's 100 percent there," he continued.

Then, said Trenggono, his party carried out diplomacy with the Vietnamese government.

According to him, Vietnam has indeed formed its ecosystem, starting from feed to addition. "If we are still sporadic, it's small. So, we can't compete yet," he said.

Then, Trenggono realized that he had not been able to complete the smuggling of BBL by Vietnam.

"So, from our calculation is that 'that's okay, I can't prevent it from happening'. With the existing regulations, we can't stop the smuggling," he said.

Then, Trenggono again opened the tap for exporting BBL with one of the conditions being that Vietnam wanted to cultivate in Indonesia.

"Well, that's what we gave. And as a result of our diplomacy with the Vietnamese government, there are five companies that invest. That's in the Jembrana area between Banyuwangi and Bali, but in the high seas. So, it's the same as in Vietnam," he said.

Trenggono admitted that his party gave Vietnam a target to be able to cultivate around 30 million BBL every month.

"It's just that, if it's Rp. 300 million (for) 1 year, for example. We use Rp. 3,000 per seed as PNBP, we've got Rp. 900 billion every year. Even though that doesn't actually stop the smuggling," he said with a laugh.
