JAKARTA - PT PGN (Persero) Tbk (PGAS) has completed the interconnection work of the Tanbak Aji CNG Cluster Distribution Pipe section with the Kendal - Mangkang Distribution Pipe section which is connected to the Cirebon-Semarang Phase 1 (Cisem 1) Transmission Pipeline.

Thus, efforts to pioneer gas supply for the Tambak Aji and Wijaya Kusuma Industrial Estates over the past 10 years sourced from the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) can be transferred to pipeline gas sources.

General Manager of PGN SOR 3, Hedi Hedianto said, since 2022, the need for natural gas energy in Central Java has increased. This is supported by the Cisem Transmission Gas Pipe which was built by the government.

"When the Phase 1 Cisem Pipeline and distribution pipe in Kendal - Mangkang - Tambak Aji are completed, the process of transitioning from the CNG gas source to the pipe gas in Tambak Aji is then carried out by connecting with the distribution pipe from Kendal Offtake to the existing CNG cluster pipe Tambak Aji through the Mangkang - Tambak Aji distribution pipe," explained Hedi, Wednesday, June 5.

Hedi said, the volume of existing gas flow for the commercial industrial sector in Central Java is 3 BBTUD or 3 million cubic meters per month.

In addition to serving the commercial industrial sector, through the integration of Gresik-Semarang gas pipeline infrastructure, Kalimantan-Java and Central Java Distribution, PGN also serves the electricity sector needs of 45 BBTUD.

Hedi explained that PGN's presence in Semarang City has been around for a long time, namely 2014 in an effort to increase economic and industrial competitiveness in the Central Java region through the flow of natural gas in CNG modes that are more environmentally friendly and competitive.

At that time, there was no pipeline network that led to Central Java and the industrial location was far from gas sources. So PGN built a pioneering distribution pipeline supplied from CNG (CNG Cluster) in the Tambak Aji Industrial Estate and the Wijaya Kusuma Industrial Estate. The CNG supply was obtained from PT Gagas Energi Indonesia, while the gas distribution point before it was channeled to the CNG distribution pipeline was at the Tanbak Aji Pressure Reducing Facility (PRS).

After the CNG transition to piped gas, the gas source came from Pertamina EP's Jambaran Tiung Biru (JTB) well in Bojonegoro.

"With the transition of gas sources from CNG to pipeline gases, PGN hopes that gas consumption will increase. On the other hand, supply availability is also increasingly sustainable to add new customers in the Tambak Aji area, Wijaya Kusuma and its surroundings," said Hedi.

Phase 1 of the Cisem Pipe has also been connected to Gresik Gas Pipelines - Semarang exciting, so that the pipeline network on the island of Java in the future will be more connected to increase the use of gas in East Java, Central Java, and West Java.

PGN hopes that the development of the Phase II Cisem transmission pipeline by the Government will continue so that PGN can continue to develop natural gas distribution infrastructure and services for market expansion as well as increase equal access to natural gas for the community.
