JAKARTA - Acting (Plt) Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the decline in the number of domestic air transport passengers in March 2024 by 3.51 percent compared to February 2024 was influenced by the Ramadan situation.

"The decrease in the number of passenger departures using domestic air transportation was due to a decrease in the demand side at the beginning of the month of Ramadan which fell in that month," Amalia said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 2.

The number of domestic air transport passengers in March 2024 was 4.5 million people, while in February 2024, the number of passengers reached 4.7 million people.

During January 'March 2024, the number of domestic air transportation passengers was 14.1 million people, down 0.95 percent compared to the conditions in the same period in 2023, which was 14.2 million people.

Unlike the number of passengers, the number of goods transported using domestic air transportation increased by 11.24 percent, from 51.6 thousand tons in February 2024, to 57.4 thousand tons in March 2024.

"In March 2024 there was an increase in the number of goods transportations on a monthly basis for all modes of transportation," said Amalia.

He explained that logistics delivery activities increased when entering Ramadan and preparations for Eid.

Regarding the number of domestic sea transportation passengers, BPS recorded an increase of 1.26 percent, from 1.505 million people in February 2024 to 1.524 million people in March 2024.

The increase also occurred in the number of train passengers, from 31.9 million people in February 2024, to 32.775 million people in March 2024.

Thus, there was an increase of 2.71 percent.
