Achieve Positive Achievements, SEZ Records Capai Investment Of IDR 15.1 Trillion In The First Quarter Of 2024

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs noted that during the first quarter of 2024, 20 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) had recorded investment achievements of IDR 15.1 trillion and absorbed 9,342 workers, and there were an additional 19 new business actors investing in SEZs.

Cumulatively until the first quarter of 2024, 20 SEZs have recorded investment realization of IDR 187.5 trillion by absorbing 126,506 workers.

Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso said that 20 SEZs had recorded investment realizations, additional number of business actors and quite positive employment.

In addition, Susiwijono emphasized that the condition of the Indonesian economy in the first quarter of 2024 was still relatively stable amid the heated global geopolitical conditions.

"Inflation in our country will still be very under control, in 2024 we will be able to grow above 5 percent. The possibility of a recession is still much lower than the possibility of a recession in various other countries, because the Government has prepared various policies to anticipate various global geopolitical dynamics," said Susiwijono in his statement, quoted on Sunday, April 28.

According to Susiwijono, the spirit of optimism needs to be conveyed to all investors in the world that investing in Indonesia, especially in the Special Economic Zone (KEK) is the right choice considering that Indonesia is quite strong from an economic perspective.

Susiwijono conveyed that to increase SEZ competitiveness, monitoring of development development, investment realization, and the effectiveness of each SEZ facility is needed through periodic evaluation work meetings.

In its development, Susiwijono said that SEZs are still able to support the Indonesian economy, shown by various SEZ breakthroughs such as downstreaming in various fields, ranging from downstreaming natural resources in several manufacturing SEZs such as the Gresik SEZ and Sei Mangkei SEZ, to digital downstreaming in the Nongsa SEZ.

Furthermore, as well as other services such as Health at the Sanur SEZ, Education at the Singhasari SEZ, and MRO at the Batam Aero Technic SEZ. In addition, one of the tourism SEZs in Indonesia, namely the Mandalika SEZ, is still in the world's spotlight by hosting various world-class sports tourism events.

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary General of the KEK National Council Rizal Edwin Manansang revealed that the Secretariat General of the KEK National Council monitored and evaluated the sustainability of the SEZ and recommended follow-up steps on the results of the evaluation to the President in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation Number 40 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the SEZ.

"We are also evaluating the contribution of SEZs to the regional economy, including investment growth; labor growth, and gross added value growth or gross regional domestic product," said Edwin.
