Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi ensured that no airline selling tickets exceeded the upper limit (TBA) tariff during the 2024 Eid homecoming period.

Quoted from the official website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, each airline must determine flight ticket rates not exceeding the Upper Limit Tariff (TBA) or not below the Lower Limit Tariff (TBB) along with other tariff provisions such as Fuel Surcharge (FS) in accordance with statutory provisions, to maintain the momentum of national flight recovery.

This provision refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 20 of 2019 concerning Procedures and Formulation for Calculation of Limit Tariffs for Passengers of Domestic Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Economic Class Services.

"I agree with what the Chairman (Commission V of the DPR Lasarus) said that the TBA must be checked and cannot be exceeded and thank God, during this homecoming period no TBA has been exceeded," he said during a working meeting to prepare for homecoming with Commission V DPR, Tuesday, April 2.

Airplane Ticket Prices Are Already At The Edge Of TBA

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said that there had been a trend of increasing aircraft ticket prices ahead of Lebaran 2024. In fact, there were already airlines that priced tickets at the end of the upper limit (TBA) set by the government.

"Indeed, the average is at the end of the TBA, yes," he said when met at the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Jakarta, Monday, March 25.

Furthermore, Adita explained that the trend of increasing ticket prices was very clear because last January was a low season.

"It seems drastic because we have run out of low seasons. In January, everyone gave a really cheap price, yes, and once we enter the high season demand, automatically, this is the mechanism for airlines to increase prices to the upper limit," he said.

Even though there has been an upward trend in aircraft ticket prices, Adita admits that she has not found an airline that has applied prices exceeding the predetermined upper limit.

"There has been (an increase trend), but what I also say is that we have not identified any violations. But if the price is at the top, there is. Already there," he said.
