Gibran Believes British Downstream Can Be Implemented In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Mayor of Surakarta, Central Java, Gibran Rakabuming Raka is optimistic that downstream industries carried out in the UK can be implemented in Indonesia, considering that all materials for the industry are available domestically.

"Mampu, all of the goods are in Indonesia," he said in Solo, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, March 13.

Related to this, he recently visited one of the Alloyed Ltd technology companies, owned by Indonesians living in the UK. The company created components for Formula 1 and hospitals.

"This is one example of downstreaming. So far there has been no touch from Indonesia. We want intervention," he said.

According to him, Indonesia is able to implement the downstream industry considering that there are many raw materials available domestically. "We all have all the components," he said.

Meanwhile, his party has not been able to confirm whether there will be cooperation that can be established between the city of Surakarta and the company in Oxford.

"Later, it's my first time going there. I just saw the factory, I just saw the product," he said.

Previously, Gibran said the visit was closely related to innovation-based economic development efforts. In this sector, one of the priorities of Surakarta City implemented through Solo Technopark is an international competitive innovation area.

"Indonesia needs to build a research and economic commercialization ecosystem based on digital innovation," he said.

He said it needed to start from the regions with synergies from various parties, such as industry, universities, venture capital, businesses, and the central government.

"In this case, Solo Technopark has started that way," he said.
