Minister Of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian: Airlines Don't Increase Ticket Prices During Eid Homecoming!

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian hopes that the Ministry of Transportation can collect airlines so as not to increase the price of aircraft tickets during Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri homecoming and backflow.

"We really ask that if you can gather friends with airlines (by the Ministry of Transportation) so that (flight) do not take the highest benchmark price, but yes what is natural, the usual," Tito said at the National Religious Holiday Coordination Meeting (HBKN) Fasting and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 5.

Tito asked the Expert Staff of the Minister of Transportation for Maritime Transportation and Maritime Affairs Andre Mulpyana at the meeting. This is important so that air transportation is no longer a contributor to inflation during Eid Al-Fitr and Christmas and New Year's National Religious Holidays (HKBN).

Tito chaired the meeting initiated by the National Food Agency (Bapanas), asking the Ministry of Transportation to collect and communicate with airlines so as not to take advantage of the Eid homecoming moment to increase the ticket price.

"Because the demand (demand) is very high, don't let the demand be high, then the benchmark is while they are profitable, but later the impact of transportation rising inflation will increase and food prices will also increase," said Tito.

In addition, the Minister of Home Affairs also asked the Ministry of Transportation to ensure the readiness of ports and airports to support the distribution of basic needs, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2024.

Expert Staff of the Minister of Transportation for Maritime Transportation and Maritime Affairs Andre Mulpyana stated that the Ministry of Transportation had formed a strategy to control air transportation rates since last year.

Even so, he admitted that he would immediately convey the request of the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian to the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi.

"Later I will convey with the team that happens to be here representing the Secretary General is the Head of the Transportation Development Center. God willing, I will immediately convey to the Minister of Transportation that we will follow up this week," said Andre.
