"And as much as 8.45 percent were exported through pipes with total gas consumption at the end of 2023 reaching 5,868 BBUTD," said Rizal, quoted on Monday, March 4.

Rizal also said that since 2012, domestic gas utilization has been higher than exports. In the next few years, Indonesia is expected to still export natural gas, especially to fulfill previously agreed contracts.

"However, the Government is committed to continuing to increase the use of gas for domestic purposes and gradually reduce exports in order to maintain energy resilience and independence and support economic growth," said Rizal.

Rizal also revealed that the Government has set a number of regulations in supporting natural gas governance in Indonesia, both on the upstream and downstream sides, starting from Law number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas on Earth, Law number 30 of 2007 concerning Energy, Government Regulation number 79 of 2014 concerning National Energy Policy, as well as Government Regulations and Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as derivatives.
