Sri Mulyani: Press People Not Only Passive Witnesses But Active Perpetrators Forming The History Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - On National Press Day, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati highlighted the importance of the press role for democratic countries to improve civilization, build thought, and become a source of enlightening and educating information.

The role of the press is very important and fundamental for a country that adheres to a democratic system. As the front line, the press has a very important and large responsibility to continue to improve civilization, build thought, and become a source of information that enlightens and educates," Sri Mulyani said quoting Antara.

He stated that in the midst of the current leadership transition process experienced by Indonesia, the press must be able to become a clear and reliable source of information, maintain the integrity of the government, and maintain the integrity of the nation.

"A balanced, intelligent, and educational news is part of the development of the nation's dignity," he said.

Sri Mulyani also hopes that press personnel can continue to adapt and reduce the negative impact of digital technology in order to be able to continue to report and broadcast events, history, and various life lessons that are important to the nation by upholding the actuality, integrity, truth, and justice.

"Indonesian press personnel are not only passive witnesses for important events in the Republic of Indonesia, but are active actors in shaping Indonesia's history," he said.

In the momentum of commemorating the 2024 National Press Day with the theme "Making the Transition of National Leadership and Maintaining the Integrity of the Nation", the Minister of Finance also appreciated the hard work and dedication of Indonesian press personnel to maintain clarity, intelligence, and information integrity for the community.

He and all levels of the Ministry of Finance are also grateful for the role of national press personnel who have helped the government to spread information and educate the public regarding state finances.

National Press Day is celebrated on February 9 every year.
