Dumai Port And Lampa Strait Will Be Developed By The Ministry Of Transportation

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi will soon develop Dumai Port, Riau and Lampa Strait Port, Riau Islands.

Budi assessed that this needed to be done because of the enormous potential of the two ports. For example, how the movement of people from Dumai to Malaysia and vice versa turns out to be quite a lot. He considered this an opportunity.

"There are quite a lot of people moving from and to Malaysia. So, Dumai port will be maximized. We plan a beautiful port and it will be completed in the near future," said Budi, Friday, February 9.

For Dumai Port itself, the two main developments that will be carried out are dredging the dealer pool and developing passenger terminals.

Meanwhile, for the Lampa Strait Port, the Minister of Transportation said that there would be a number of developments carried out at the port, namely terminal construction and container land.

"I saw the Lampa Strait Port with a deep draft and calm water, that's certainly potential. Therefore, we agreed to build a terminal for pioneer ship passengers and also prepare land for container," he said.

The Minister of Transportation said that one of the problems at the port was the difficulty of accessibility. Thus, the potential of this port function is not too maximal.

Therefore, said Budi, his party will talk to relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of PUPR to fix this.

"So, we just need to identify the accessibility, then we will work with the Ministry of PUPR to fix it," he said.

Budi said that his party would also coordinate with the local government regarding the development. "We hope that the local government can also provide back-to-back transportation which is still relatively lacking," he added.
