Global Water Fund Formation Overcomes Clean Water Supply And Sanitation

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) officially held the 4th Workshop regarding the "Designing Global Water Fund Establishment" in the context of the Road to The 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali, in May 2024.

During the event, Director General of Public Works and Housing Infrastructure Financing Herry Trisaputra Zuna said the formation of the Global Water Fund was critical in providing long-term funds for clean water and sanitation.

"The formation of the Global Water Fund is critical in providing long-term funds for clean water and sanitation as well as water-related disaster financing," said Herry in Jakarta, Monday, February 5.

Herry said that the formation of the Global Water Fund is expected to overcome the funding gap and also in the context of achieving sustainable development goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 6.

Indonesia itself has formed an Indonesia Water Fund (IWF) for investment development and the provision of clean water throughout Indonesia.

"It is hoped that IWF can work by operating costs of up to IDR 15 trillion for clean water projects. Thus, more water projects can be facilitated with the Indonesia Water Fund," he said.

The discussion of the position, component and architecture of the Global Water Fund is the fourth workshop goal that raises the topic of Designing Global Water Fund Establishment as a new policy proposal in securing and increasing water infrastructure funding.

Meanwhile, the results to be achieved are the identification of key issues, opportunities and designs, as well as the best practices for the formation of the Global Water Fund.

In support of the main theme The 10th World Water Forum 2024 Water for Shared Prosperity which will be held in May 2024 in Bali, the Ministry of PUPR through the Directorate General of Public Works and Housing Infrastructure Financing has organized three of the four seminar/workshop series as side events.

The first seminar with the topic 'Government Support and Private Sectors' Perspective on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for Water Resources Infrastructure was held in February 2023, in Jakarta, the second workshop with the topic Blended Finance for Water Sector was held in March 2023 in Bandung and the third workshop with the topic Secure and Increase Funding for Basic Access to Safe Water and Sanitation for All at All Scales, held in July 2023, at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, Central Java Province.

Meanwhile, in this fourth workshop, there are five topics that will be discussed, namely The Establishment of the Pandemic Fund and Green Climate Fund as a benchmark; Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) as a tool for Fund Establishment; Showcasing Indonesia Water Fund; How to tap Commercial Investment into Global Water Fund; and Import Factors and Respectives on Global Water Fund Establishment.
