JAKARTA - The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM) through Smesco Indonesia will cooperate with national students abroad to become export ambassadors.

This is done as one of the strategies to increase the export of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

President Director of Smesco Indonesia Leonard Theosabrata said that his party had discussed with the unity of Indonesian student associations spread abroad.

He said the Indonesian student representative had also previously met with the Coordinating Minister for SMEs Teten Masduki.

"To (enhancing) exports, the idea is that we create export ambassadors with students abroad and cooperate with diaspora. This has been (done) several times. I have zoomed in with representatives from Japan, the Middle East, as well as those in Europe and America," Leo said at a press conference at the Kemenkop UKM office, Jakarta, Thursday, January 25.

Leo said the export ambassador would later be assigned to make mappings that contained market conditions and tastes in the country.

Then, these data can be used for MSME actors.

On the other hand, these students can also build networks or relations in the country.

In addition, Leo said, his party would also cooperate with Indonesian diaspora or migrants abroad.

Through this collaboration, of course, it is hoped that export ambassadors can be formed.

"We are working on this with the Indonesian Diaspora Network Global. There is already an MoU (a memorandum of understanding). Later we can try to make a kind of export ambassador," he said.

According to Leo, there are other strategies that can be carried out, namely by holding an international trade show.

He considered that encouraging exports requires trade exhibitions, in which buyers can directly interact with buyers.

The plan is that the trade show will be held in Bali with a focus on the food and beverage sector as well as beauty and health.

Leo assessed that Bali is a place for economic turnover.

"I think the best trade show is what meets the buyers directly, but thematics and focus. We plan to be able to happen in Bali. Because in Bali it is for food and beverage, as well as well as wellness and beauty, it will be very good. There is also a special economic zone (KEK) in Sanur," he added.
