JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) targets regulations related to the management of marine sedimentation results to be completed in March 2024.

This was stated by KP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono at the Outlook Press Conference & Priority Program for the Marine and Fisheries Sector at the KKP Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 10.

"Yes, it is still being discussed. It still takes time because it involves a study team consisting of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Trade. Then there are universities and local governments (Pemda). But, I think early March (2024) should have been completed," said Trenggono.

Trenggono said that the regulation should not be misused later so that it takes a lot of sand minerals that have a high value.

He emphasized that this sedimentation is a sea clearing that covers or disrupts the undersea environment.

According to him, sedimentation results that have valuable minerals need to be separated. Thus, sedimentation results such as mud and sand can be taken. This causes regulations related to the management of marine sedimentation results to continue to be discussed today.

"There is mud, sand and other materials. This really has to be separated, only mud and sand are taken. Meanwhile, those outside must be left to become state assets. So, it takes time," he said.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has confirmed that until now the government has not opened the tap for sea sand exports.

Even though Government Regulation (PP) Number 26 of 2023 concerning Management of the Results of sedimentation in the Sea has been issued.

The Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Budi Santoso, said that the management of marine sedimentation was carried out to meet domestic needs.

"Until now, it is still prohibited according to the Permendag, it is still prohibited. If Government Regulation Number 26 of 2023 means that it is permissible, if domestic needs are met. But there are no technical rules yet," he said some time ago.
