Minister Basuki Emphasizes The Importance Of Building A Comfortable City, Productivity Becomes The Main Indicator

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that currently urban development is not only building physical, but also the spirit.

The spirit is a forum for inclusive social-culture activities and the productive-economic activities of all humans living in it.

"We must be able to design a city that has a close relationship with humans / city residents in it, including its environment," Minister Basuki said while attending the awarding of the title of Honorary Professor from Diponegoro University to the Chairman of the IKN Authority Bambang Susantono, quoted Monday, December 11.

Minister Basuki said productivity and comfort are indicators that are very much needed in urban development.

With the population growing faster in the future, the government must prepare a city that is truly safe and comfortable.

"So, the livable city not only carries the element of modernity of urban development, but also must be sustainable, and has an element of resilience to various disaster risks," he said.

According to Basuki, with climate change, the buildings must also be resilience and be resilient to drought or flooding.

"Because sustainability is closely related to environment. So, the concept is a tough city to face climate change and comfortable for its citizens to live, move and produce," he said.

In his inauguration speech, Bambang Susantono also hoped that in the future the city's development would focus on the feasibility of the city.

"The goal is to be able to handle various dynamics of problems in the future, so that apart from being a city that is worthy and sustainable and liked," he added.

The awarding of Honorary Professor (honoris causa) was given to Bambang Susantono in an open session held at Diponegoro University, on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
