PGN Supplies 10 Bbtud of Natural Gas to PLN Batam

JAKARTA - PT PGN Tbk (PGN) distributes additional volume of natural gas to the PT Pelayanan Listrik Nasional (PLN Batam) Power Plant. The volume of the use of the earth gas is approximately 10 BBTUD or equivalent to approximately 8 million liters of fuel per month.

The gas in process or the first gas drainage begins in October 2023 and its own contract will take place multi -year. This plant is a new plant that will meet electricity needs in the Kabil and surrounding industrial areas. The power plant capacity is estimated to be able to produce 50 MW of electricity.

"The distribution of natural gas to PLN Batam is a PGN contribution as part of Pertamina in providing alternative energy during the transition. This is also an effort to encourage industry growth in the Batam Island region which is one of the special economic areas in Indonesia, "said General Manager of PGN SALES AND OPERATION REGION I (SOR I) Andi Sangga Prasetia, Wednesday 6 November.

Management of natural gas services and infrastructure in the SOR I region covers the island of Sumatra. Until now it has distributed natural gas by 163 BBTUD to 138,253 customers in various sectors ranging from households, industry & commercial, small businesses, transportation and power plants. Batam region is included as the PGN operating area with the largest absorption of natural gas in SOR.

"PGN Batam Area is committed to providing a reliability of gas supply so that PLN Batam can maximally serve the community. The distribution of gas for PLN at the Kabil handover point also adds PGN's strategic partners in the electrical sector and is expected to increase the reliability of electricity availability in Batam, "said Wendi Purwanto as the Batam Head area.

To deliver the gas, PGN invests to build pipes along approximately 3.1 km to the handover point located in Kabil.

Previously, PGN Batam area served several power plant customers namely Batam Electric Energy, PLN Batam Pemping Island, Batamindo Investment Horizon, Panbil Utility Sentosa and Energy Shoot. Overall, PGN Batam area distributes natural gas to electrical customers of 80 BBTUD. The amount of distribution dominates the distribution of natural gas in the Batam region of approximately 82 percent.

"Seeing the amount of gas absorption from power plants spurred us to strengthen natural gas services for electricity. We are also grateful for the trust given, so that natural gas is welcomed by colleagues in the electrical sector. There is even the potential need for natural gas utilization needs of more than 75 percent for the power generation sector, "said Wendi.

Not only to customers of power plants, PGN Batam Area still maintains commitment to serve and develop natural gas utilization in the household to industry sector. Until now, the total PGN natural gas network in Batam along 270 km to serve 102 industry & commercial, 5,774 households and 68 small businesses.

PGN natural gas infrastructure is spread and passes through several industrial areas and crowds. This brings the potential for retail customer growth which is dominated by the olechemical, smelter and battery industry sectors.

The impact of business efficiency, the reliability of manufacturing production and also environmental sustainability will certainly provide the value of competing advantages for industry players who use natural gas.
