JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said Indonesia has a fishery export contract with China of 25 million US dollars until 2024.

"The contract is around 25 million US dollars. This is quite good. Until next year (2024), but we should be able to continue to enlarge this," he said when met in the Muara Baru area, North Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 9.

Trenggono explained that the commodities exported to China include squid, fern fish, tuna, shrimp, crab, baul, kerapu to heur.

Trenggono also said that exports of domestic fishery products in 2022 posted an achievement of 6.2 billion US dollars with the main markets of the United States, China, and Japan.

While export achievements have so far reached 4.3 billion US dollars. Although he has not competed with the achievements in 2022, he believes that with the remaining time towards the end of 2023, export achievements can continue to be boosted.

"What has been achieved in 2022 is 6.2 billion US dollars. Now it's 4.3 billion US dollars. So it's down a bit, yes, but we still have a few months, I think we can still chase the same minimum (with 2022)," he added.

He assessed the decline in exports of marine boga products to the Bamboo Curtain country due to a decrease in demand from the international market, while demand for domestic fishery products is still high.

Meanwhile, Director General (Dirjen) of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) Budi Sulistiyo revealed that the export target of fishery products in 2023 is 6.7 billion US dollars.

Regarding the decline in exports, he revealed that this was due to a number of countries entering a period of economic recovery.

"This trading activity is a bit slow down because each country is recovering from its economy," he said.

With this problem, his party has prepared a strategy to encourage the use or consumption of fish in Indonesia. So this fishery product can also be an economic value, absorbed domestically.

Not only relying on exports, continued Budi, but also the community also buying fish, doing promotions, then combining business matching between the boga service association, hospitality, and so on to the community.
