The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is building cooperation with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to support the implementation of blue economy programs.

Director General of Marine Space Management of the KKP Victor Gustaaf Manoppo said support from the National Police provides legal certainty while at the same time encouraging the acceleration of national economic recovery and creating sustainable development.

"Management of Indonesian marine and fishery resources must place the ecology as a commander that must be maintained for the future of our children and grandchildren and will make Indonesia the world's maritime axis," he said in a written statement on Sunday, August 13.

According to Victor, KKP has five policy programs that are ready to be implemented to support the sustainable development of the marine and fisheries sector. The five programs consist of expanding marine conservation areas, measurable fishing based on quotas.

Then, the construction of sustainable coastal and land sea cultivation, management and control of coastal areas and small islands as well as cleaning up plastic waste in the sea through the Fisherman's Participation Movement or the Sea Love Month.

"Indonesia is the epicenter of world carbon absorption, which contributes to the sustainability of human life and the prevention of global climate change," he said.

Victor also called for Indonesia's fishery products to become winners in the global market, which is highly competitive and is produced through environmentally friendly means. Previously, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono called for the need to encourage and prioritize the sustainability of marine ecology in line with optimal use of the sea both from the economic and socio-cultural aspects so that future generations can feel the benefits of marine and fishery resources.
