Violating Arrest Permits, KKP Orders 8 Fishing Boats In The Arafura Sea And Malacca Strait

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has brought order to eight fishing vessels that violate the operating area permit of over 12 miles in the Arafura Sea (West Saumlaki) and the waters of the Malacca Strait.

The KKP itself is intensifying the control of fishing vessels operating not according to its fishing path.

"The ships catch fish outside the fishing zone for the regional permit ship or over 12 miles. This includes actions that violate Government Regulation Number 5 of 2021, so we stop these ships and order them back to their departure ports," said Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) Adin Nurawaluddin in his official statement, Friday, July 21.

The eight ships that were brought under control were KM. M 75 (28 GT), KM. CAA 03 (30 GT), KM. C AL J 04 (29 GT), KM. SRB 36 (30 GT), KM. PM (30 GT), KM. SR (28 GT), KM. SW 88 (27 GT), KM. SM (30 GT).

Adin explained, in Government Regulation Number 5 of 2021, it has been regulated that ships with business licenses on fishing sub-sectors and fish transportation under the authority of the regional government, namely ships measuring above 5 GT to 30 GT and operating up to 12 nautical miles in their administrative areas.

In addition, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono through the Circular Letter of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Number B.701/MEN-KP/VI/2023 concerning Migration of Business licensing Subsectors for Fish Fishing and Business Licensing Subsectors for Fish Transportation has also provided ease of licensing migration if it will operate above 12 miles.

"There is already a licensing migration policy. If you want to arrest more than 12 nautical miles, you must migrate from a regional permit to a central permit in accordance with applicable regulations, so that you are not considered to have illegal fishing," said Adin.

Furthermore, said Adin, as many as eight ships will be detained and ordered to the Tual PSDKP Base and Belawan PSDKP Station to undergo further processing (adhoc).

"In addition to carrying out control operations against Indonesian fishing vessels operating not according to their fishing routes, the KKP has also collaborated with local governments to monitor and evaluate to ensure fishing vessels with business licenses issued in accordance with the provisions in PP 5/2021 and other statutory provisions," he said.

This is done in the context of improving national fishing management and preparing for the implementation of Measurable Fish Fishing (PIT).
