JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), Krakatau Steel (KS), and PT Rukun Raharja (RAJA) signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of a green hydrogen pipeline (Green Hydrogen).

The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, the President Director of Krakatau Steel, Silmy Karim, and the President Director of RAJA, Djauhar Maulidi in a series of B20 Summit activities in Nusa Dua Bali on Friday, November 11.

"Hydrogen is the energy of the future and Indonesia has great potential. For this reason, hydrogen development is strategic for the energy transition and Indonesia's net zero roadmap," said Dannif in a statement to the media, Saturday, November 12.

Not only on the upstream side, he continued, downstream infrastructure also needs to be prepared. Pertamina NRE actively collaborates with various strategic partners in the development of clean hydrogen from the upstream side. For this reason, his party welcomes strategic cooperation with Krakatau Steel and Rukun Raharja in the development of transmission pipelines and hydrogen distribution.

Previously, Pertamina NRE and Krakatau Steel together with IGNIS Energy Holdings had signed a Joint Study Agreement for the construction of a blue/green hydrogen plant in the Krakatau Steel industrial area which is integrated with offshore power plants (PLTB) and PLTS which in the future can produce electricity up to 500 MWp 1.5 GWp.

For information, green hydrogen is hydrogen produced from renewable energy power plants such as geothermal, solar, bayu, or water (hydro). Currently, Pertamina NRE through its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) is developing green hydrogen in the Ulubelu geothermal working area, Lampung with a production target of 100 kilograms per day.

In the long term, it is targeted that the production of green hydrogen from all areas of geothermal work can reach 8,600 kilograms per day.

Previously at the G20 SOE International Conference, Pertamina NRE signed a joint study agreement with several strategic partners for clean hydrogen development, including Ignis Energy, Sembcorp, and TEPCO.
