JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, encourages the industrial sector, universities, and all stakeholders to collaborate with the government to create electric vehicles with more economical prices.

"If the price of an electric motorbike is 16 million with an attractive motor condition and good battery quality, this will be very attractive to the public", said the Minister of Transportation when opening the 2022 Indonesia Electric Motor Show (IEMS 2022) in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, September 28.

The Minister of Transportation said collaboration needs to be carried out so that efforts to transition from fossil fuel vehicles (BBM) to electric vehicles can be carried out more quickly.

He revealed, three things must be pursued to create a more economical electric vehicle. The first is to make a battery that is competitively priced but has a high cruising range.

Second, producing motorcycles for domestic products, and thirdly increasing battery charging stations.

"If these three things are done systematically, the price of electric vehicles will be relatively cheaper", he said.

With a lower price, he said, it is hoped that the economy of electric vehicles will be created, where there will be a balance between the amount produced and the number of users.

“At a certain point, there will be several explosions between production and electric vehicle users. I believe electric vehicles have a good future,” he said.

The Minister of Transportation further said that the government has encouraged the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia by issuing several regulations and policies.

He appreciated the collaborative efforts of universities, researchers, and the industrial sector, which also supported the government to create an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

"Regulations and policies from the government, as well as studies and research from universities, will be complete when the industry innovates and seizes opportunities for the electric vehicle industry whose potential is already in sight", he said.

In particular, he also appreciated the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for consistently holding electric vehicle exhibitions such as IEMS.

IEMS 2022 will be held on 28-30 September 2022 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) with the theme "Strengthening Autonomous Ecosystem".

The opening of exhibition was opened symbolically by charging the electric motor at the battery charging station.

Also attending the opening of IEMS 2022 were Director General of Land Transportation Hendro Sugiatno, BRIN Research Professor Eniya Listiani, and BRIN Deputy for Development Policy Mego Pinandito.
