JAKARTA - The hotel industry has been the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said he was optimistic that 2022 would be the year of the revival of the national hotel industry.

"Success and keep the spirit, guys! 2022 will be the year of the revival of the hospitality industry. I am very optimistic that there will be more job opportunities and the economy will increase," he said, quoted from his Instagram @sandiuno, Saturday, January 15.

Sandiaga explained that this optimistic attitude departed from the fact on the ground that the hotel industry players had begun to adopt various innovations to be able to survive during this COVID-19 pandemic.

For example, said Sandiaga, such as the innovations made by the Sheraton Hotel Yogyakarta. They provide a memorable stay experience for customers with creative decoration in the rooms. So, there is no need to stay in a presidential suite classroom to have a different and memorable experience.

"Enough with an ordinary room and creative decorations that are out of the box like this can make you happy and treat fatigue after a long day of activities. Great job @sheratonjogja! This is proof that innovation doesn't have to be expensive. Innovation only needs new ideas fresh," he said.

Previously, the COVID-19 pandemic that entered Indonesia since March 2020 had battered the tourism and hospitality sectors. The decline in the tourism sector has an effect on the decline in hotel occupancy, hotel revenues, to the creative economy business sector hospitality. This includes services in the tourism sector.

Various efforts have been made by the government to support this industry to revive. One of them is financial support.

The Minister of Finance (Menkeu) said that in 2022, there will be a budget allocation of Rp9.2 trillion consisting of allocations for central government spending of Rp6.5 trillion and Rp2.8 trillion through transfers to regional governments.

"Through this budget allocation, it is hoped that it will be able to develop tourism and the creative economy from three aspects, namely accessibility; attractions and amenities; and through 2P (promotion and participation of private actors)," said Sri, in a written statement, Monday, September 27, 2021.
