Today's Weather: Thick Clouds Dominate Indonesia, BMKG Watches Rain in Central Papua

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that today's weather, Friday, August 7, in most parts of Indonesia will be thick clouds.

BMKG Praktirawan Yuyun Wulandari said that starting from the Sumatra and Riau regions, Banda Aceh City is predicted to have hazy weather, while the Padang region will be hit by smoke or fog.

"Tanjung Pinang and Bandar Lampung are expected to be cloudy, while Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, and Palembang are thick clouds," said Yuyun, quoted by Antara, Friday morning.

Still in the Sumatra region, Medan and Bengkulu will be hit by rain with light intensity.

Turning to Java Island, the weather in Yogyakarta City is predicted to be hazy, while Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya are cloudy. For Serang and Bandung Cities, it has the potential to be covered by thick clouds.

Then for Kalimantan, the weather in Pontianak and Palangka Raya is predicted to be cloudy, while hazy air will hit Banjarmasin.

"The weather in Samarinda City has the potential to be thick clouds, while Tanjung Selor will be showered with rain with light intensity," he said.

Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather in Denpasar and Kupang is predicted to be cloudy, while Mataram will be hit by smoke or fog.

For the Sulawesi region, Palu is predicted to have hazy weather, while Makassar is sunny and cloudy. The city of Manado is predicted to be sunny and cloudy, while Gorontalo and Kendari have the potential for thick clouds.

"Light rain is expected to rain on the Mamuju area," he said.

For the Maluku and North Maluku regions, Ternate is predicted to have hazy weather, while Ambon is cloudy.

Shifting to Papua, the Sorong, Manokwari, and Merauke regions are predicted to be thick clouds, while light-intensity rain is likely to rain on the Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya regions.

BMKG also reminded the public to be alert to the potential for moderate to heavy rain in the central Papua region.
