JAKARTA - The Iranian Intelligence Ministry on Wednesday said it had arrested 39 people in Tehran for allegedly being linked to Israel and "terrorist groups."
In a statement carried by the Mehr News Agency, the ministry said that about 27 of those detained were members of two groups it labeled as "terrorist" organizations.
According to the statement, a suspect is suspected of trying to establish an operational cell in Sistan and Baluchestan Province using the seized weapons, reported by Anadolu (26/3).
Authorities said they seized 49 improvised explosive devices, two Kalashnikov rifles, 16 pistols, 50 magazines, and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition.
They also reported the seizure of stun guns, tear gas, molotov bombs, explosives and seven Starlink satellite devices.
The ministry also said two of those detained were accused of carrying out online activities aimed at spreading unrest, while others were accused of providing information on the location and movements of security forces.
The arrest was made as the US and Israel continued to launch air raids against Iran since February 28, which has so far killed more than 1,340 people, including then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage as well as disrupting global markets and flights.
