Bareskrim Is Being Seriously Sued For Illegal Logging In Sumatra

JAKARTA Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Nasir Djamil, supports the steps taken by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police who formed a team of investigators to handle cases of illegal logging in Sumatra which resulted in damage to the environment and society.

"I agree that the Bareskrim team conducted an investigation regarding illegal logging which was said to be one of the causes of the disaster in Sumatra," he said, Sunday, December 7.

According to him, the existence of a team of investigators from Bareskrim Polri will complement the Forest Area Control Task Force (PKH) which has been working in the forestry sector, considering that both of them have different functions. "The PKH Task Force is controlling, while Bareskrim is enforcement," he added.

This politician from the PKS faction emphasized that the formation of an investigative team should not stop at administrative steps only, but must be followed by concrete actions. Moreover, this illegal logging case has become the attention of President Prabowo Subianto.

Nasir hopes that Bareskrim and the PKH Task Force can work together effectively to secure natural resources from perpetrators of forest destruction. "The synergy between the two is very important to save our natural resources from being robbed by black conglomerates," he said.

Previously, Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, stated that his party had not remained silent and had taken legal steps by forming a team that would investigate allegations of illegal logging practices in West Sumatra. Later, the team from the Criminal Investigation Unit together with the local Police will conduct an in-depth investigation and investigation into illegal logging activities.

"Bareskrim has formed a team, later it will collaborate with the West Sumatra Police," he said while reviewing the Ante Mortem Command Post belonging to the West Sumatra Police at Bhayangkara Hospital, Padang, last Thursday, December 4.
