JAKARTA - The National Police Reform Acceleration Commission emphasized that the focus of the hearing held today should discuss the case experienced by a former ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) employee, Laras Faizati, not the issue of alleged fake diplomas that were conveyed directly by parties who were already suspects.
During the hearing, the Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, highlighted the delivery of a mother of Laras Faizati, a woman who was arrested at a demonstration late last August.
"The mother's child works at the ASEAN secretariat. She is not an activist, but joined a demonstration and was involved on social media in August. She was arrested and has not yet come out. That was what was complained about," said one of the leaders of the Commission in the audience.
It is known, Laras Faizati as a suspect on suspicion of sedition to burn the Police Headquarters Building during a demonstration some time ago.
Jimly confirmed that he would follow up on the case to the National Police Chief, even though the settlement was still in the internal realm of the police.
"We will give recommendations for such cases," he said.
Regarding the issue of fake diplomas, Jimly emphasized that he would not shut himself up to discuss it, as long as the goal was to find a solution. However, his party could not accept the presence of Roy Suryo Cs who had become a suspect in the case.
"We do not refuse to talk about fake diploma cases. But people who are already suspects, please understand, we cannot accept their presence. This is a matter of ethics," he said.

In fact, said Jimly, his party also asked for input from audience participants regarding the solution to the alleged fake diploma problem. One of them came from Faisal Asegaf who proposed mediation between Jokowi and Roy Suryo et al.
"What if mediated? That's a good idea. Try asking if both parties want to be mediated," he said.
Jimly assessed that mediation can be an option in accordance with the restorative justice spirit in the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. However, it can only be done if all parties are willing and understand the consequences if the results of the proof show the diploma is valid or invalid.
"The condition is that Rismon and his friends must be willing to all the consequences if they are proven legitimate or proven invalid, each of them must have a risk," he said.
Jimly also reminded that the issue of fake diplomas is not new in Indonesia. He said that when he served as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) in 2004, similar cases were found.
"There are a lot of fake diploma cases. In 2004 the requirements for legislative candidates were still in junior high school. We proposed that they be raised to high school, but there were still many problems," he said.
He added that even in the 2024 Pilkada, the Constitutional Court still found seven cases related to fake diplomas out of a total of 40 cases that were tried.
"This is a sign that the administration of our taxation and public institutions is still very bad," he said.
The Commission emphasized that all discussions in today's hearing were part of efforts to absorb public aspirations for the sake of improving the police institution.
"So basically you, we don't refuse to talk about fake diploma cases, we're just talking about finding a solution. But people who are already suspects, please understand we can't accept it, it's about ethics," he said.
