Victims Of The ASL Extortion Ship Fire Increased To 11 People

The death toll in a fire incident on the MT Federal II tanker which was being repaired at a shipyard owned by PT ASL Marine Shipyard Batam increased to 11 people.

Kapolresta Barelang Kombes. Zaenal Arifin confirmed the information. The victim, who was previously seriously injured, was rushed to Mutiara Aini Hospital, after receiving intensive care, the victim was pronounced dead Thursday (16/10) at 15.35 WIB.

"It is true that the death toll today totaled 11 people," said Zaenal as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 16.

He said the victim was Roni Andreas Harefa, a resident of Batu Aji, an employee of PT Satria Global Persada Subcon.

"The victim, when the incident occurred, was evacuated and treated in the ICU room at Mutiara Aini Hospital, was declared dead by the hospital at 15.35 WIB," he said.

The working accident on the burning of the MT Federal II ship at the PT ASL Marine Shipyard shipyard occurred Wednesday (15/10) at 04.20 WIB.

The fire occurred in the WBT 2S area, when the welding work was carried out in the tank.

Based on reports from internal companies from Fire Incident Report officers, the fire incident began when a number of workers from PT Rotary Engineer and PT PTM were carrying out hot work (hot work) in the cargo oil tank (COT) tank of the Federal II ship which was undergoing the repair process.

A fire suddenly appeared from inside the tank triggering an explosion that caused a major fire in the work area.

The company's safety team immediately extinguished and evacuated victims. The fire was successfully extinguished at around 05.00 WIB. There were 21 injured consisting of 7 serious injuries and 14 minor injuries, and 10 people died at the location.

This fire incident is the second time this year, the first incident was June 24, 2025, as many as 4 people died, and 5 others were injured.

The first case has been determined by two suspects, namely the initials A and F as subcones of PT ASL Marine Shipyard.

The case is currently being examined by the Batam District Attorney.

Zaenal emphasized that his party was accelerating the legal process for the work accident incident that killed the human life. Until now, investigators have examined 9 people from the company as witnesses.
