DPR Asks Police To Take Strict Action On Illegal Alcohol Circulation After 7 Residents Died In Magelang

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR Abdullah, asked the Police to act decisively in handling the circulation of liquor after seven residents of Bondowoso Village, Mertoyudan District, Magelang Regency, Central Java, died as a result of an illegal alcohol party. According to him, the circulation of illegal alcohol is still rampant.

"The death toll after the alcohol party indicates that illegal alcohol is easy to obtain in the community. The police must take firm action against anyone who sells, offers, or distributes dangerous goods to people's lives and health," Abdullah told reporters, Tuesday, October 14.

Abdullah reminded that Article 204 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) has regulated a criminal penalty of up to 15 years in prison for perpetrators who sell or distribute dangerous goods that cause death. If there is no strict law enforcement, said Abduh, the victim due to illegal alcohol will continue to fall.

"There should be no omission against the circulation of illegal alcohol. How long do illegal liquor circulate and take lives?" he said.

The case in Magelang is known to have started with an alcoholic party conducted by eight people. The liquor consumed is said to be a 'black rocket' without a brand and packaged in a plastic bottle. Of the eight people who drank, seven of them died.

Abdullah also urged the police to immediately conduct an investigation, identify suspects, and conduct regular sweeps to prevent the circulation of illegal alcohol in the community.

"The police should not only act after there are victims. Prevention efforts must be carried out thoroughly," he said.

He also asked law enforcement officials not only to target sellers but also to take action against illegal liquor producers to the roots.

"Seliki where the manufacture of illegal alcohol and taking action from upstream to downstream. This is important to ensure that illegal alcohol is no longer circulating," he concluded.
