SAR Team Searches For Chinese Foreigners, Crews Of Liberian-flagged Cargo Ships, Fall In Aceh Waters

JAKARTA - Basarnas conducted a search for a foreign national (WNA) from China, a cargo ship that crashed into the sea in the waters of the Indian Ocean, Aceh Province.

Head of Basarnas or Banda Aceh SAR Office Ibnu Harris Al Hussain said the victim, Duan Tie Lie, was 50 years old, a Chinese national.

"The search for victims has entered its second day. The search for victims in the Indian Ocean, around the waters west of the Pulo Aceh Islands, Pulo Aceh District, Aceh Besar District," he said in Banda Aceh, Friday, was confiscated by Antara.

Ibnu said the victim was a crew member of the MV CL Diyin He ship, a Liberian-flagged cargo ship. The victim reportedly fell into the sea when the ship where he worked sailed in the Indian Ocean.

The operation to search for victims, he said, began with information about the incident via electronic mail or email on Wednesday, September 24, at around 19:10 WIB. Based on this information, the Banda Aceh SAR Office dispatched a search team.

The search involved 20 personnel from the Banda Aceh SAR Office, three Sabang Naval Base personnel, four personnel from Sabang and Ulee Lheue Beach Radio Stations, and five personnel from the Sabang SAR Post.

"The search involved the KN Kresna SAR Ship moving from Ulee Lheue Port, Banda Aceh City and the RIB boat from the Sabang SAR Post and MV CL Diyin He," he said.

Ibnu Harris Al Hussain said the search on the second day experienced weather problems. High waves and strong winds caused the KN Kresna SAR ship to show the point or position of the last victim.

"The weather during the search with a wave height ranges from 2.5 to three meters and the wind with a speed of 16 knots to the west of the data. The search distance is up to 68 nautical miles from the coast," said Ibnu Harris Al Hussain.
