JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that as many as 78 houses in Madiun Regency, East Java were damaged by extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in Jakarta, Tuesday, said that in this incident there were as many as 78 families of affected home owners, spread across six villages in Dagangan District, Madiun.

BNPB confirmed detailed data on the damage, including 23 houses in Ngranget Village, 24 houses in Padas Village, 12 houses in Segulung Village, nine houses in Banjarsari Kulon Village, 10 houses in Banjarsari Wetan Village, and one public facility in Prambun Village by strong winds which took place between 16.00 - 18.00 WIB, Sunday 21 September.

"The impact of the damage was reported to be mostly targeting the roof and walls of the building," he said.

He ensured that the joint team of officers including personnel from the Madiun Regency BPBD's rapid reaction with the BNPB Pusdalops had provided assistance in the field, to ensure that the basic needs of the community were met and the damage was immediately handled.

In addition to collecting data on damage, the joint team of officers also coordinated with the village government to facilitate residents who needed temporary shelter and basic logistical assistance.

For this incident, BNPB appealed to local governments and the public to be vigilant and increase preparedness for the potential for similar extreme weather considering that currently it has entered the transition season to the rainy season and its peak is expected to take place in November-February 2026.
