JAKARTA - Former Nepalese Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli after being ousted by his people in a massive demonstration has not yet emerged to the public.

Agni Kharel, co-star of the CPN-UML party led by Oli, said the person concerned did not want to be seen in the public at this time under Nepal's military protection.

"He was under the protection of the army and returned yesterday," Agni told AFP, Friday, September 19.

Oli was forced to withdraw from her throne as Nepal's PM after a demonstration led by Generation Z in Nepal claimed 73 lives and thousands more were injured.

Sushila Karki was appointed as the new Nepalese PM to replace Oli on Friday, September 12, 2025. The former chairman of the 73-year-old Supreme Court is believed to lead the transition period of the post-ordinary leadership government.

Karki was assigned to restore order and fulfill the demands of demonstrators for a corruption-free future ahead of elections in the next six months.

"Demonstration and movements led by youth reflect the aspirations of our younger generation, increased public awareness, and dissatisfaction with the rampant corruption in this country," Karki said in a speech commemorating Constitution Day which Nepal celebrated on Friday, September 19.

"The state institution must (functional) in accordance with the aspirations and expectations of the people," he continued.
