Towards The Global City Of The World, Jakarta Implements Steps To Become An Economic And Cultural Center

JAKARTA - As one of the largest metropolitan cities in Southeast Asia, Jakarta continues to organize itself to become part of the world's global urban ranks. This effort is strengthened by the mid-term development vision of 2025'2029 which places Jakarta as an international competitive city, a sustainable economic center, and a prosperous residence for all its citizens.

This was confirmed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, during the commemoration ceremony of the 498th Anniversary of the City of Jakarta which was held at the National Monument Field (Monas), Sunday morning.

In his remarks, Pramono emphasized that the development of Jakarta will continue to stand on a strong cultural identity while looking at the future as a world-class city.

"This vision is not just ambition, but a concrete direction that combines sustainability, modernity, and preservation of Jakarta's identity," Pramono said, as quoted by ANTARA.

He emphasized that local culture remains an important element in urban development. Jakarta as the face of Indonesia in the eyes of the international community, according to him, must prioritize the wealth of values such as mutual cooperation, tolerance, and inclusiveness as a force to grow harmoniously in the global era.

One of the concrete steps taken is the revitalization of the Blok M area through a program titled Blok M rasa Jakarta, Citra ASEAN. This program is designed to make the area a creative center that combines cultural, entertainment, and shopping functions with the typical nuances of the capital city.

In addition, the Road to Jakarta 500 initiative has also begun to be mobilized. This program revives historic spaces such as the Kota Tua area as a stage for art and cultural expressions. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to encourage Betawi-based tourism through the Betawi Bangkit campaign, Jakarta Culture. One of them is the launch of the Jakarta Tourist Pass, as well as strengthening the identity of the city through Betawi cultural icons in various public spaces.

The 498th anniversary commemoration series of Jakarta's 498th Anniversary was also held lively. After the flag ceremony in the West Monas area in the morning, the plenary meeting was continued at the DKI Jakarta DPRD, and a banquet with ambassadors from friendly countries in the afternoon. The highlight of the event was closed with a music performance at Banteng Field which presented a number of well-known artists such as Wali, JKT48, Andien, Diskoria, and Sandhy Sondoro. A similar entertainment stage was also held simultaneously in Kota Tua and several other points.
