Vomitting Ash Reaches 1,500 Meters, Mount Dukono North Maluku Has Alert Status

JAKARTA - The Volcano (PGA) of Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku (Malut) ejected volcanic ash as high as 1,500 meters above the peak on Monday 17 February at around 07.00 WIT

"It's true this morning there was an eruption," said Officer of the Dukono Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in North Halmahera Regency, Bambang Sugiono, in his statement, Monday, February 17, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northwest.

In addition, he said, this eruption was recorded on the seismogram of the maximum amplitude of 27 mm for a duration of 69.28 seconds from the PGA Dukono Post Office in Mamuya Village, Galela District.

Bambang explained that currently the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is still on Alert or Level II status.

Therefore, people around Mount Dukono and visitors and tourists are advised not to do activities, climb, and approach the Maupang Warirang Crater within a 4 kilometer radius.

"This appeal was conveyed considering that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occurred and the distribution of ash followed the direction and speed of the wind, so that the ash area did not remain," he said.

He also asked the people around Mount Dukono to always provide masks for use when needed to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.
