Until 2030, DKI Pemprov Targets To Build 578.8 Kilometers Of Bicycle Path

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has a target of making bicycle lanes with a total length of 578.8 kilometers for the next nine years.

"There is a plan to develop a bicycle path from 2019 to 2030 along 578.8 kilometers", Syafrin told reporters, Wednesday, February 24.

During his tenure, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan realized 63 kilometers of bicycle paths in 2019. The routes made are prioritized for roads subject to the odd-even policy at this time. The width of the track is made of 1.25 meters.

The initial plan was for DKI to continue building a 200-kilometer bicycle path by 2020. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit. The budget for making bicycle lanes has been diverted to deal with the pandemic. This year, DKI plans to build a permanent bicycle path.

"Currently, the construction of the 11.2-kilometer Sudirman-Thamrin permanent bicycle path is being carried out, which is targeted to be completed by the end of March 2021", said Syafrin.

The permanent bicycle lane on this protocol road will be equipped with several facilities for cyclists. Among them are wayfinding, footrests at intersections in the bicycle path, and rest areas in the form of a bike rack on the sidewalk.

In the construction of this permanent bicycle path, the DKI Provincial Government will also build an inscription containing an ornament that has become an icon of Jakarta and bicycles. This inscription is located on the sidewalk or pedestrian path.

"The permanent bicycle path will also be integrated with mass public transport service facilities, including 9 Transjakarta bus stops, 6 Jakarta MRT stations, 1 Commuter Line train station, 1 airport train station, and 1 Jabodebek LRT station", said Syafrin.

He continued, the construction of permanent bicycle lanes is expected to make bicycles the preferred and alternative mode for first mile and last mile trips to support transit-oriented transportation policies.

"We ask for the participation and support of all stakeholders in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the community in Jakarta to participate in campaigning for the Jakarta Cycling Friendly program by making the construction of permanent bicycle lanes on Jalan Sudirman to MH Thamrin", he added.
