Pulo Nangka River Pile Collapses, Residents Ask For Immediate Repair

JAKARTA - Heavy rains that hit the East Jakarta area caused the foundation of the river pile walls to erode, damaging the 150 meters of sheet pile.

The sheet pile is located in the connecting channel of Kali Pulo Nangka, Kayu Putih Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta.

According to Njay, a resident, the area around the collapsed sheet pile area has experienced three major floods. The water in the river overflowed into residential areas.

Some parts of the sheet pile were crushed and broken, almost eroding the public road above them.

Njay explained that the sinking of the sheet pile in the Kali Pulo Nangka channel had been going on since four days ago.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of Kayu Putih Village, Tuti Sugihastuti, the piles collapsed because they were eroded by the swift flow of the Pulo Nangka River.

"On Tuesday 19th, it rained in our area, continuously, intensively until morning. There is a possibility that the sheet pile on the Jalan Pulo Nangka channel has been eroded by rain, the bottom has been eroded by rain, so as a result, the sheet pile slides down", she said.

Overcoming this, Tuti immediately coordinated with the Water Resources Service (SDA) and Highways.

"We are still waiting for their continuation. I'm afraid this sheet pile will sink even deeper, it will collapse. Because the channel to the river is big to anticipate if it rains continuously", she said.

Due to the collapse of the sheet pile, some of the road vehicles have the potential to be damaged and collapse. The village head will also coordinate with the Sub-Department of Transportation to divert the flow of traffic.

"Because this is also dangerous if it is passed by road users. It is likely that later it will be closed temporarily. We will provide signs that can be seen", she said.
