After The Incident In Kiwirok, IDI Papua Asks The Local Government And The Authorities To Maintain The Safety Of Health Workers

PAPUA - Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Papua, Dr. Donald Arrongear, expressed his concern about cases of violence experienced by health workers in Kiwirok, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua.

"We are very concerned about the violence experienced by health workers because they should be protected by various parties", said Dr. Arrongear was reported by Antara, Jayapura, Thursday, September 15.

Health workers and teachers should be protected from dangerous groups because they exist to serve the community. This is by the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

The case in Kiwirok is the opposite. Health workers become victims. IDI Papua hopes that no more health workers are victims of persecution from any group.

"We hope that the local government and security forces will help provide security to health workers on duty in the regions", said Dr. Donald Arrongear.

Five health workers were injured, including one who died after falling into a ravine during a shootout with security forces and KKB (Armed Criminal Group) in Kiwirok, Monday, September 13.

KKB also carried out terror by burning public facilities and abusing health workers. The Head of the Bintang Mountains Police, AKBP Cahyo Sukarnito, separately said that at this time the fate of one health worker was unknown, namely Gabriel Sokoy.

Security forces and residents have tried to search, but have not been found.
