Disperse Brawl, Police Attacked By Arrows

MAKASSAR – The action to break up a brawl between groups on Kandea 3 street, Makassar City, South Sulawesi was dramatic and tense at the same time. The reason is, the police received arrows from one of the brawl groups.

The personnel of the Kamtibmas Disturbance Investigation Team (Penikam) of the Makassar City Police admitted that they had fired tear gas, but the brawls had not subsided.

The officers continued to apply pressure by giving tear gas to disperse the two groups. Until aid came from the Makassar Police Station and the Tallo and Bontoala Police. The clashes subsided and the crowd fled.

"We broke up the brawl between youths on Kandea street, bordering the Tallo and Bontoala sub-districts. This brawl has deeply disturbed the community," said the head of the Makassar Police Investigation Team, Chief Police Brigadier Amal, Tuesday, September 14, early in the morning.

Officers who were pursuing and sweeping the perpetrators experienced difficulties because the location of the brawl was in a densely populated area and had many alleys. None of the brawlers were caught by the officers.

Police are still investigating the cause of the brawl. Officers still suspect the trigger is an old grudge between the two groups.

"At that location, we secured a number of arrows used during the brawl, if the trigger for the brawl is suspected to be due to an old grudge," he explained.

A number of security officers from the Bontoala and Tallo Sector Police are still on guard at the border of the two sub-districts to anticipate further brawls.
