MUI Open To Discuss Pinjol Halal-Haram Fatwa

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Hasanuddin AF, said he was open to discussing halal-haram fatwas regarding online lending practices.

"Because it's disturbing, yes, if someone asks for a fatwa, MUI is ready. But so far (no one has submitted it)", Hasanuddin said when contacted by VOI, Friday, August 27.

He explained that the submission could be made in writing by individuals, community groups, or the government.

But, personally, he said these online loans have more harm and harm to people, so this can become haram.

"Moreover, the system is interesting, the interest is chained. It's an interesting system, sometimes violence is used when collecting it, that's what happened", he said.

He said, internally at MUI there has been no discussion about this online loan. However, if it disturbs the public, the MUI can discuss it further.

"If it disturbs the public, perhaps without the community's request, MUI can issue a fatwa. Because there are 3 models for issuing a fatwa, proactive, responsive, and anticipatory", he said.
