Elevated Rail In Mexico Collapsed, 15 People Were Killed 70 Wounded

JAKARTA - Fifteen people were killed and 70 others injured when an elevated rail crossed by the Mexico City, Mexico metro train collapsed and fell into the road below, Monday, May 3 evening local time.

A dramatic video on the local channel Milenio TV shows a metro 12-line overpass collapsing over a car on the road below. Videos on television and social media showed emergency medical crews and firefighters combing through the rubble looking for survivors.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said 15 people were killed and a car was trapped under the rubble.

"Unfortunately there are people who died and were injured. I am at the site supporting the installation of a command center", Sheinbaum wrote on Twitter, as reported by Reuters, Tuesday, May 4.

Meanwhile, the City Civil Protection and Risk Management Agency said that 15 people were killed and 70 people were injured as a result of the accident this time.

To note, the Line 12 metro was built when the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard became mayor of Mexico City.

"What happened today with Metro is a terrible tragedy. My solidarity with the victims and their families", said Ebrard on Twitter.

"Of course, the cause must be investigated and responsibility determined. I affirm that I am ready to assist the authorities in any necessary matter", he added.
