Moi Language Enters Local Elementary School Charges In Sorong Papua, Disdik: Efforts To Preserve Culture

JAKARTA - The Education Office (Disdik) of Southwest Papua Sorong Regency included Moi Kelim in the elementary school education unit (SD) through local content (mulok) as an effort to preserve culture in the region.

Head of the Elementary School Education Division of the Sorong Regency Education Office, Melkias Arabanaya, explained that this is a concrete effort by the government to forward the Moi Kelim language to the easy generation as an important part of cultural conservation.

"Because at this time young people are not proficient in telling Moi language, so this needs to be included in the world of education to be taught well to students," he said in Sorong Friday, February 14, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the implementation of the Moi Kelim language was only limited to grade IV SD, then it would then be applied in grades V to VI SD.

"Since we started in 2023, we have compiled the curriculum and RPP for class IV, and starting at that time the Moi Kelim language was officially included in the education unit," he said.

In implementing the Moi Kelim language, speakers who are already proficient in teaching poetry, speeches, and regional songs in the Moi Kelim language.

"We also have a Moi Kelim language dictionary that is used as a teaching material in grade IV elementary school," he said.

He also mentioned that the Moi Kelim language has now been applied to 80 elementary schools spread across the capital city of Sorong Regency. Meanwhile, other elementary schools have not had the opportunity to apply the regional language in the teaching and learning process because they are constrained by the resources of the teacher or original speakers.

"We want all elementary schools, but we are constrained by resources," he said.

Nevertheless, he said, efforts to continue to preserve culture by the government are still being made to save regional languages from the extinction of the times.
