Getting An E Score From ICW, Polri Appreciates It As An Input To Work Better
JAKARTA - The National Police (Polri) leadership has used the assessment of the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) as input to work better in handling corruption cases.
"Yes, of course, we need to appreciate the input from ICW. Polri appreciates it as input," said the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police's Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, during a press conference at the Police Headquarters, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Monday, April 19.
ICW gives an "E" value to the performance of law enforcers in prosecuting corruption cases for the period 2020. Law enforcers who get an "E" score are the KPK and the Indonesian Police.
This value is based on an analysis of information originating from law enforcement institution channels and mass media in the period 1 January - 31 December 2020.
"Of course the Police in handling all cases will always be professional, transparent, and accountable," said Rusdi.

ICW researcher Wana Alamsyah explained in a virtual press conference on Sunday, April 18 that the E value means that the percentage of case handling by law enforcers is only 0-20 percent. In 2020, there were only 444 cases handled by law enforcers compared to the target of prosecuting cases of 2,225
ICW found that out of 444 corruption cases that were included in the investigation stage in 2020, there were 875 suspects with the amount of state losses incurred of Rp. 18.6 trillion, bribes of Rp. 86.5 billion and illegal fees of Rp. 5.2 billion.
The performance of the Indonesian Police was mentioned by ICW in handling 170 corruption cases with a target of handling 1,539 cases in 2020 with a budget of Rp. 277 billion.
The actors most investigated by the police, according to ICW, are people who have positions at the executive level. This is exacerbated by the absence of efforts to expose cases to the most strategic actors.
"For example, we suspect that the police have a conflict of interest when handling cases of alleged corruption removal of 'red notice' at Interpol and the unclear handling of corruption cases related to misappropriation of COVID-19 funds," said Wana.
