Support The Constitutional Court To Remove The Presidential Threshold, PAN: We Dream Of Pushing Our Own Cadres
JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) supports the Constitutional Court (MK) to remove the Presidential Threshold (mining limit) of at least 20 percent of the DPR seats or valid votes of 25 percent nationally. PAN dreams of encouraging its own cadres to run as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the upcoming elections.
Deputy Chairperson of PAN, Saleh Partaonan Daulay said his party had long struggled with other components of the nation to remove the PT. In terms of rationality, according to Saleh, the implementation of PT 20 percent is very unfair because there are many constitutional rights of citizens who are neglected and castrated.
"If you use PT, that means that not all citizens have the right to become president. Only those who have great political support can advance. Meanwhile, getting political support like that is very difficult," Saleh told VOI, Thursday, January 2.
Actually, Saleh continued, Indonesia has many potential national leaders who are worthy of being relied on. The candidates, he said, are on campuses, working as professionals, mass organizations activists, NGOs, and others.
"However, they did not think of running as presidential or vice presidential candidates. Because they do not have basic capital and experience as administrators of political parties," said the North Sumatra DPR legislator.

With this Constitutional Court decision, Saleh hopes that all parties can sit together to formulate the presidential election system in the future. What is clear, said Saleh, is that the DPR and the government must strive so that all people have the same right to nominate and be nominated.
"The basic principle of democracy is equality of rights and position in law and government. And it must start from a regeneration system and leadership change at all levels. This seems simple. But it definitely takes a lot of time to implement it," he explained.
"If PAN, God willing, is very grateful for this decision. We hope that many presidential and vice presidential candidates will emerge. And of course as much as possible we also dream to encourage our own cadres. Or at least, cooperate and collaborate with parties or other elements of the nation," continued Saleh.
The chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR also thanked the Constitutional Court for making important decisions in Indonesian democracy.
"Finally, yes, we thank the Constitutional Court for making this decision. This is a very populist decision supported by the community," concluded Saleh.
