Tips To Prevent Drowsiness After Eating Big

JAKARTA - When attending celebrations with large dishes, it is not uncommon for someone to feel sleepy or tired after eating or even the next day.

According to Maxine Yeung, MS, RD, a registered dietist, one of the main causes of drowsiness after eating large meals during celebrations is extra work carried out by the digestive system to digest the various types of dishes served.

Usually, typical celebration foods such as Thanksgiving contain high levels of fat, sodium, processed carbohydrates, and sugar. In fact, turkeys that are often the main dish at events like this contain a certain amount of triptofans. Overdated consumption of triptofans can trigger drowsiness.

Apart from food factors, alcohol consumption also plays a role in causing fatigue. As a presidential substance, alcohol slows down the function of the central nervous system, which can make the body feel more relaxed and sleepy. In addition, alcohol often triggers excessive appetite, exacerbates drowsiness after eating large.

Yeung also added that big day celebrations, such as holidays, could add to the mental and physical burden due to the preparation of events, cooking, cleaning, or even long trips. All these activities can affect energy levels and cause fatigue after the event is over.

In order to feel fresh and not lethargic after a big event, it is recommended to eat enough food and avoid eating to excess. Variate the contents of your plate by adding lots of non-temple vegetables to make digestion easier and help the body stay powerful.

In addition, avoid coming to events with empty stomach conditions, because this can trigger excessive eating. Also make sure to consume enough water to compensate for the effects of sweet drinks or alcohol.

After a big meal, light walks can be an effective way to support the digestive process and increase energy.

"Going for a walk after eating a big dish, such as Thanksgiving dinner, can be a good solution to help digestion while at the same time giving the body an energy boost," Yeung said. (Ant)
