MUI Invites Muslims To Play Social Media Wisely In Today's Memory, November 25, 2016
JAKARTA Memories of today, eight years ago, November 25, 2016, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) invited Muslims to be wise in playing social media (medsos). MUI considers playing social media to be a disaster if it is not used for good.
Previously, playing social media had a negative positive side. Positively, people can open connections and friendships. Negative people are trapped in freedom. They try to show each other's actions of blasphemy to spread hatred for each other.
The presence of various social media Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Telegram' has their own fun. Many people feel the direct benefits of social media. They can have a lot of friends and build a network.
There is also social media as a means of self-exploration. Another big advantage is that social media can cut distance and time. The general spirit only needs a smart device and can explore many things in social media.
This condition provoked people to try to use social media for good. They try to make social media a storefront for works, from pictures to paintings. They can also meet potential customers who want to use their services.
Social media does bring a lot of goodness. However, not a few negative impacts from social media. Negative impacts arise everywhere. The use of social language is sometimes critical. Many languages that are not worth hearing.
They tried to comment on anything. As a result, mutual blasphemy arose. Recently, many have come to spread hatred to each other. Instead of looking for new friendships, the action led to them creating hostility everywhere.
Lately, disaster can come playing on social media. Therefore, the use of social media for children and adolescents must be monitored by parents.
"Do not let the use of social media language cause hatred, division, pitting, vilifying and insulting," said education observer Tuti Tuarsih as quoted on the ANTARA page, November 8, 2016.
Recently, the freedom to play social media has begun to be considered critical. MUI also spoke up on November 25, 2016. They invite all Muslims to be wise in playing social media. MUI believes the presence of social media is important.

However, its use should not be arbitrary. Social media users must have a big responsibility so that social media becomes a medium to spread kindness, not hatred. MUI wants social media to be used to build a positive image.
If the social media is built with a negative image, the results will bring a lot of harm rather than benefits. Moreover, the ITE Law is still in effect. This means that everyone can be threatened with going to prison for commenting arbitrarily on social media.
"But social media will be a disaster if you can't use it well. Some have bad consequences and some even have a legal case. He was made a suspect even in prison because of social media. We can see from those who were carried away by legal cases. Friends who became suspects because of the ITE Law. "
"Therefore, our education is through da'wah, this is what we want to convey through this event. Be aware. Now the conditions are getting a bit warm, as the president said. This condition is because of social media. Revolutions or conflicts in Syria are also caused by social media," said Chairman of the Central MUI Da'wah and Community Development Commission, Cholil Nafis, quoted on the detik.com page, November 25, 2016.
